We recognize that your privacy is important to you.

You can use Chordle without an account. If you do, we don’t collect anything that identifies you, and the only information we receive is the anonymous usage and diagnostic data described under Using the app.
If you create a Chordle account (to subscribe, use Chordle Drive, or join a group), we store the information described under Chordle accounts so that we can provide those services.
We never sell your information or share it with advertisers.
Using the app
Usage and diagnostic information is only retained for up to 90 days, and permanently deleted after this time.
Feature usage
- We collect anonymous information regarding the features that are used, and any errors that may occur while you are using the software.
- You may opt out of this in the settings, but we encourage you to keep it enabled as it helps us to improve the software and fix any issues that may arise.
Crash reports
- You will be prompted to send crash reports to us, and you can choose not to send them if you wish.
- You can review the content before sending.
Troubleshooting logs
You have the option to send us logs for troubleshooting purposes. Along with these, you can also opt in to send us your song database to help us understand any issues you may be experiencing.
Chordle accounts
What we store
- Your sign-in details. You sign in with Google or Microsoft. They tell us your email address, your name, and an id for your account with them. We never see your Google or Microsoft password.
- Your profile and preferences. Your name as you choose to show it, and whether you want to receive product updates and offers by email.
- Your devices. The name of each device you sign in on (for example your computer’s name), what kind of device it is, and when it last connected. We use this to apply the device limit for your plan, and you can see and remove devices from your account.
- Your Chordle Drive library. If you use Chordle Drive, the songs and set lists you sync, along with earlier versions of your songs.
- Your groups. The groups you belong to, your role in each, and the library the group shares. Group admins can see the email addresses of the group’s members and of people they invite.
- Your subscription and payments. Your plan, its status and renewal date, and a record of each payment (amount, currency, tax, date and a link to the receipt). We don’t receive or store your card details.
What we use it for
We use this information to sign you in, sync your library between your devices, share group libraries with group members, apply your plan, and show your subscription and payment history. If you opt in, we also email you about product updates and offers; you can turn this off at any time in your account’s email preferences.
Who else handles it
- Google and Microsoft handle signing in. Their own privacy policies apply to your account with them.
- Lemon Squeezy sells Chordle subscriptions on our behalf as the merchant of record. They handle checkout, your payment details, tax and receipts, under their privacy policy.
- Resend delivers the emails we send, such as group invites, to the address they’re sent to.
- Microsoft Azure hosts our servers and database, in data centres in the United Kingdom.
Keeping and deleting your data
- You can download a copy of your account data at any time from your profile at subscriptions.chordle.com.
- You can delete your account yourself from your profile at subscriptions.chordle.com (Profile > Delete my account). This cancels any subscription you pay for and deletes your account, devices, Chordle Drive library and group memberships. Groups you were the only member of are deleted too. Songs and set lists in a group that has other members stay with the group, no longer linked to you.
- We keep payment records after an account is deleted, because we need them for accounting and tax. They are no longer linked to you.
- If a group’s subscription ends, we keep its library for two months so it can be brought back, then delete it.
- Songs on your own devices are not affected by deleting your account. They stay on the device until you remove them.
Web searching
When you use the online search feature, your search query is sent to the respective online service to retrieve the search results. These services are governed by their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review these before using the online search feature.
App stores
When you download Chordle or make purchases through an app store (Microsoft Store on Windows, Google Play on Android), the app store may collect certain information about you, such as your IP address and device information. This information is collected by the app store and is governed by their own privacy policies.
Online syncing
When you use the online syncing feature with OneDrive or Google Drive, your data is stored on the respective service’s servers. These services are governed by their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review these before using the online syncing feature. Chordle Drive is our own syncing service, covered under Chordle accounts.
